My wife and I were here last night. I had the tuna which is awesome!!! My wife had the 6 oz filet with caramelized onions, bleu cheese, and merlot sauce. The soup and salad bar is a nice addition. I had their pepper soup (basically a beanless chili) while my wife had the minestrone. For the quality of the food, they are practically giving the food away. My only complaint is that a glass of soda is served in a small glass.

Excellent service. We had a special not on the regular menu, perch dinner, very good. Decor classic Wisconsin supper club. Middle of winter but could hear the waves from Lake Michigan lapping at the shore, no doubt a beautfiul view out the window when the sun shines. Major complaint - small lowball glass of Pepsi, and refills cost extra, not good to have to nurse a soft drink at $1.25 a glass.

One of the best restaurants in Wisconsin, and a pretty strong competitor to most any steakhouse/supper club/whatever. We had great steaks, chops, whitefish ans fried shrimp. Literally everything was great, tasty, well- prepared. I can't really call Donny's a supper club. No little bowl of radishes and pickles to greet you, no traditional bar to order your drink at. But it's also SO much better. Salad bar is fresh and plentiful, really nice selection, including two soups (our visit it was Sauerkrut, loaded with sausage, potatoes and onions, along with a rich Pepper Pot. Entrees were perfect. And my melt-in-your-mouth NY Strip was the Wed night special (14 oz, just $14.95). So goooood More

We have been going to Door County for years, and just tried this place. Hard to find but worth the trip. We did have trouble locating it as it's outside of Sturgeon Bay, but the hostess was patient during our direction call in's and even expressed her happiness that we made it safe. The prices are so reasonable, the meat is a good quality and the service is top notch! We went for the prime rib and got it just as ordered, good soup and salad bar with fresh rolls and bread. A friend ordered the filet with 3 fried shrimps at a cost of $1.95 each. That was fantastic! Got desert to go and the pumpkin cheesecake was wonderful as was the lemon berry cake. Even as we were leaving the bartender and other servers/hostesses, made it a point to say goodbye and thank us for our visit. Will be coming back!

This establishment is rated #1 restaurant in Sturgeon Bay and it's absolutely true! We went there 2 nights in a row because the food was so good and so reasonable. I had the steak tenderloin kabob and the meat was perfectly cooked and tender. I asked for steak sauce and didn't even need it. It came with wild rice and a fab fresh veggie medley, not to mention the astonishly good salad and soup bar. The taco soup (like chili) was to-die for and the homemade rolls were soft and warm. My husband had the large order of fried shrimp...too much breading, but okay. The next night we went back for German night. we each got the platter for $14.95 but it was personally too spicy for me but again, a good buy that also included the soup/salad bar. View is beautiful and we took lots of photos by the water. Donny's is in a very secluded area and I feel sorry for those who try to find it without GPS. Highly recommend this to anyone going to Door County!

This is in a resort area, so don't look for a free standing restaurant like I did! The scenery is stunningly gorgeous, adjacent to the water. Walking to our table, I was appalled to see a rack for the server propped right in the tiny walkway between table. Donny -- REALLY? This is unacceptable. Tell your servers to walk back to the kitchen to grab things when they need them. I served for many years, and this is a reality of the job, to go back and forth for customers. You don't prop a rack up in the middle of the dining room floor. I'm certain this MUST be a FIRE HAZARD! There's this "Gliddenized" steak option... with gorgonzola cheese, wine sauce & onions - I said "yes"! The problem is that the gorgonzola was not on the steak but on a separate piece of bread which was put underneath my steak. Ok, sir - I do NOT want bread under or with my steak. The cheese was hard and dry. And then the wine sauce, which was very good, was getting stolen by the nasty piece of bread under my steak!! UGH! Stop the madness!! The onions were complete MUSH. There was no carmelization, no brown, no sticky/crunchy texture :( One thing that was right was the temp of my steak, a perfect medium-rare just like I ordered. The shrimp were a nice extra for a fair price to go with the steak. Donny, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. But, your food wasn't the worst. I hope you read my review and maybe it helps you get things more right.

Tim runs a fantastic place. He works to make it a little bit better every single summer, they keep stepping up the menu, the quality, the portions, and the service. The operator is on site (Tim, the bartender) and greets every single customer, and the staff is incredibly cohesive. My favorite dish is "The Glidden" which is the most incredible steak meal I have ever had.

Best white table cloth restaurant In Door County! My husband and I added this restaurant to our honeymoon itinerary and made sure it was on a Saturday night so we could try the highly rated prime rib. You have to plan ahead to get a table on a Saturday night so make sure you make a reservation - think we heard a three hour wait...while we were waiting for our lake view table. The hostess asked if it was a special occasion - we were willing to have a glass of wine at the bar to wait for a prime table. Plus it was homecoming for Door County so we enjoyed watching the parade of high school kids dressed up. But let's talk food - the biggest best prime rib ever anywhere! Salad bar is typical Wisconsin - iceberg lettuce & a couple toppings...soups were definitely home made...side of green beans were cooked to perfection...potatoes were fine but we skipped eating them to save more room for the prime rib! Absolutely an experience you can't miss when in Door County! The ahi tuna appetizer was also the best ever anywhere! Everything cooked perfectly and the service was superb from beginning to end!

Friendly people, awesome food, large portions, fantastic lake view seating and the price is reasonable. I will return often, and tell my friends.

Visiting Sturgeon Bay requires a shift in expectations. If you want fine dining and cutting edge décor, go to the big city. Here, relaxation and good honest food are key. And on that front, this place delivers. Think of every 90s restaurant cliché you can. Floral glass salad plates. Soup served with crackers in plastic wrap. New age piano music. Think higher-end banquet hall and you get the idea. However, unlike other places stuck in the past, this place seems to do it on purpose, and it actually works, in a surprisingly pleasant and relaxing way. The service was among the best I've ever experienced, anywhere. Carrie found the perfect balance. Was always friendly and on top of things, but never overbearing. Offered brief, simple, and accurate descriptions of their wines and made a solid recommendation based on our preferences. The only minor issue was that my check was delivered face up and I'd imagine some people would prefer their dates not know the price of the meal. The food was good. Our medium-rare steaks were a bit charred on the ends, but still tasty. Dessert was a variety of chocolate and cheese cakes, and was rich, delicious, and irresistible, much to the dismay of my date... There's no question in my mind I'll return the next time I'm in the area.

Very expensive for retirement community food. Our bill was 80 dollars and they have a salad bar. You will be better off spending your money at The Chop in Sister Bay.

You can't go wrong here! For the second year in a row I had an awesome New Years Eve dinner (this year with my parents). Our reservation was for 9:30pm and they seated us early at 9pm which was great! You have to order the Prime Rib and be ready to take some home! You can't beat the location (I need to come in the summer and enjoy the water) and the staff is very friendly! Great place and worth the drive if you are staying in the northern portion of the Peninsula. I would make a reservation! They do a great job seating the walk-ins and there is a small bar area to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail while waiting. Be sure to check this place out!!

Verrrrry good. If you want to have a good dinner in Door County, Donny's should be first on your list. We had steaks, and they were excellent. Good atmosphere, views were great.

What am amazing place Donny's Glidden Lodge Restaurant is. Set so close to the shore of Lake Michigan you can hear the water on the rocks, the views from every seat in the restaurant remind you that you are in the midst of the best that Mother Nature has to offer. We had an early reservation on a Saturday as we had tickets on the other side of the peninsula for the theater that night. We arrived and were promptly seated. And then I almost fell out of that chair when the server told me the early bird special of the night: $10 prime rib dinner with 4 shrimp. WHAT? $10 bucks? Really? How could this be? Looking around, I saw several people enjoying this complete with sides and vegetables. It was an incredible deal! And obviously meeting its intended goal as the place was packed! We had come for lobster, though as they have an amazing 5 oz lobster dinner for only $29.95! I knew I wasn't in Chicago anymore as this was even cheap by Wisconsin standards. We added a small filet to the lobster for $6 and had a complete surf and turf dinner for $35. It was unbelievable!! The salad bar was the weakest thing of the night as it was mostly iceberg lettuce and the selection of dressings was just okay. But my dinner was great, served with a choice of potato and vegetable and they take the lobster out of the shell table side which was nice. The interior is exposed stone with hardwood floors and antiqued light fixtures. The walls lack ornamentation as there are windows all around and who needs pictures with all the beauty that is provided by Lake Michigan and the surrounding beach? The bar in the entryway- has a tall ceiling and is centered around a large stone fireplace adding instant ambiance. Wisconsin supper clubs are legendary- one of the best things about visiting there. And Donny Glidden Lodge Restaurant in one of the best. You certainly can't beat the prices, service, food, or that amazing Lake Michigan scenery.

Good at what it is, a supper club. Doesn't seem fair to give it a 3 star review, but the 4 stars is generous. Fish or steak, no sense in getting anything else. The prime rib was a fine, generous cut--well marbled. My wife liked her petite filet, but not outstanding. The quality is strong, except for wine selection which could use more choices at the higher end. Friendly service, though not blistering fast, but that is fine under the circumstances. I would go back.

Excellent Steak Dinner, Soup & Salad bar were very good, home made breads,,, Reservations Are A Must... Booked 3 weeks in advance & still couldn't get the time I wanted but was still able to get in... Beautiful view of Lake Michigan

Wonderful restaurant. Family owned and operated. They want to ensure that your dining experience is the very best. Breathtaking scenery. Very good food prepared to your specifications in generous portions. Tuna fish on salad bar is awesone. Seasoned waitresses give personalized service. Prine rib or lamb shank are my favorites. One of my favorite restaurants in WI.

We're in DC quite a bit and have never checked out Glidden Lodge. Have heard great things about the location, view so we decided to check it out earlier this month. When we got there at 7:30 PM in the fall wasn't too smart given that the sun was already down and it was pitch black so we missed the view.... The food and atmosphere inside was great. The place was packed and everyone seemed like they were having a good time. Loved the soup and salad bar. They had a sourkraut soup which I'm usually not a big fan of, but tried anyway and it was pretty good. Also had the signature steak, which is a filet with a wine sauce served on these small toast pieces with gargonzola. I loved it. My wife got chicked which she also enjoyed and they gave her plenty. The table next to us all had prime rib...I've never seen a piece of meat that size ever in my entire life! The service was good and friendly and the prices were extremely affordable. We'll be back again and next time we'll make sure to go before sundown!

Great food and value in a wonderful atmosphere. This stone and beam lodge from the 1930's sits just feet from Lake Michigan and absolutely exemplifies the Northwoods supper club atmosphere. Generous portions and the included salad, soup and bread bar will ensure that you'll leave satisfied. I heard from a local that lobster dinners are discounted on Mondays, German specialties are offered on Wednesdays and Prime Rib is served on Saturdays. Great place for a special occasion in Door County when you want to relax in an absolutely unpretentious environment. My favorites have been the Saturday prime rib which was a huge flavorful cut and the 12 oz. filet mignon which was done to a perfect medium. Others in my party have thoroughly enjoyed the lobster and shrimp offerings as well.

Dining at Donny's on the evening of Sat 10-13-2012 was a superlative experience! It is THE PLACE for steaks, in a romantic, incomparable, vintage lodge-type setting. The soup and salad bar was classic WI supper club: two soups, pickled beets, pasta and lettuce salads, all the usual offerings one expects. My 6-oz filet mignon was tender and perfectly cooked. By all means, "Gliddenize" it: steak served upon a merlot reduction sauce and toast points topped with melted gorgonzola cheese, then the steak is garnished with caramelized onions. Our large party of seven enjoyed excellent steaks and prompt, friendly service. The tab for my excellent steak and a cocktail was a modest $30.00. I cannot wait to return there; it would be a memorable place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary in beautiful Door Co WI!

You have to go here! We had New Year's dinner at Donny's and so glad we did. Portions are HUGE and the Prime Rib is the best! Even on a busy New Years Eve we had an 8pm reservation and the place was packed, yet they sat us down at 8:05pm. VERY friendly staff and priced just right. Only problem olives were a little on the small side in my martini :) We will return! Maybe I will bring my own olives!

I'm definitely coming back here! Although it is in an odd location, but it is right off Lake Michigan so you get an awesome view and it is super affordable. My boyfriend and I both had surf & turf and drinks and our meal was less than 80 bucks. Definitely can't find that in Chicago. The meal also came with a do it yourself soup and salad. I didn't have the soup, but I did have a salad. There wasn't much to put on your salad, but its no big deal since you should probably save room for your amazing entree. I would recommend calling ahead and making a reservation. This place was pretty busy and seems to be a pretty popular restaurant in the area.

Set in scenic Door County Wisconsin close enough to Lake Michigan that sometimes the waves splash on the windows!! Bar is small but features a 25 ft. ceiling with a field stone wood burning fire place from floor to ceiling that is awesome to nestle up buy on a cold winter evening with a snifter of B&B. Dining area also features field stone walls surrounding a wall of windows overlooking the aformentioned Lake Michigan. Food and drinks reasonably priced espeicially for Door County. Dinners traditional "supper club" cuisine including steaks and seafood. I usually prefer the prime rib(saturdays) or lobster, Monday night special is lobster and from what I hear it is a great deal. Soup and salad bar included. I highly recommend checking this place out, its one of my favorite places, so much so I will be having my wedding ceremony there this summer!!

This is a wonderful restaurant! We have been going to Door County for years and only recently discovered this gem. The food is very good. The decor/ambiance is quite nice. They don't have a big dining room, so you may have to wait for a table. Great place!!!

First time there. If we ever get that way again we will be back. The escargo puff was awesome and shimp in shrimp cocktail were cooked perfect. My blackened tuna had great flavor and a little heat. My wife's glidden steak looked really good and she said it was great. The view of Lake Michigan is phenomenal. Not Culvers prices but quality and view are worth it.

Yelp lead us to this gem. Wanted a steak dinner and we weren't disappointed. Husband ordered the filet. I ordered the ribeye. Both aged to perfection and cooked perfectly. Service was spot on and the old fashioned was delicious. Will definitely be back for more!

Very much dissatisfied in our experience this evening. All four of us ordered the prime rib: three medium rare and one medium. We received our order and, unfortunately, the prime ribs were all well done. We told the waitress and she said there was nothing that could be done, but she went ahead and brought them back to the kitchen. She returned within a minute and said the chef didn't have anything else and that we had to keep them or order something else off the menu. At this point, we had already waited far too long for our incorrect order and decided to keep the prime ribs. If they didn't have more than a medium on the prime rib, then we should have been told initially. It seems like there must be poor communication between the waitress and kitchen staff. Unfortunately, our grandparents who live in Door County will probably not return due to this experience.

Quick notes: -It is very loud, so if you are at your table, try to speak up. People are yelling, talking, and its noise level is high. -Free drink (soda, coffee refills) - very limited menu (the entire menu is just Appetizers and entrees.) - Specials only on Thursday/Friday -Friendly Staff. We sat down about 7:45, and then had a 15 minute wait until they sat us down at a drink table. They had two menus of beers, wines and cocktails. (A lot bigger than their food menu.) At around 8:30, they sat us down at our food table. If you look out the window, you see the beautiful lake Michigan. If you look to the left, you see the bathrooms along with the salad bar and soup bar. Although, their soup bar is two different kinds of soup, and a mix of vegetables for the salad. Warning, this place is NOT good for younger kids Their kids menu is nothing more than Chicken Nuggets, Peanut Butter and Jelly and Shrimp Fry. They have bread at the salad bar if you so wish. The time it took to order to get our food was 20 minutes. Pretty fast. The fries where amazing! Although.. The food my friends had, where less than satisfactory. Too chewy meat, no flavor for the other. The meat was too raw, and tasted a little funny.

Can't believe what a great place this is! We love the location----right on the rocky shore of Lake Michigan. The salad and soup bar is very nice. Homemade salads, soups, and breads. But the star of the show is The Glidden steak!!! Absolutely perfect! Call for reservations as they are always busy!! It's worth the drive!!

Recently went here for my dad's 70th birthday, hadn't been in years. It was FANTASTIC. All staff were very professional and very attentive. Bartender made sure our drinks were always refreshed and kept the wood-burning fireplace in the bar area going. Three of us got the "Glidden" which is their 10 oz tenderloin, served on top of toast points with blue cheese and a merlot reduction sauce. It was amazing. Some have complained their toast points were soggy, mine were not. Biggest surprise for me was that we ordered three different temperatures of steak, I got the rarest (medium rare) and totally expected it to be overcooked. Not at all, it was perfect temperature, best I've had in awhile. Note that you can "gliddenize" any steak, and get the toast points, blue cheese, and merlot sauce. My only complaint is I wish the salad bar had a few more different veggies on it. Beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Michigan!

Excellent date night venue! With reservations made we were seated immediately. Our server was super friendly, attentive and extremely knowledgeable. The food was fantastic, from the escargot appetizer thru to the steak and shrimp. All I have to do now is recreate their phenomenal pepper pot soup at home.

My wife and I went here for our anniversary. We had high expectations as we were used to going to a 5 star restaurant for our anniversary in the Phoenix area. We were not disappointed. The place has a north woods rustic ambience located on the shores of Lake Michigan. This was on a Thursday evening in December. We had reservations and arrived 20 minutes early, but were seated immediately. The waitress was very prompt to take our beverage order and tell us about the specials. I ordered the king sized prime rib. What I got was a half a cow cooked to perfection. It was smothered in sautéed onions and mushrooms. Definitely needed a to go box. We split a very decadent dessert. The total bill for 2 including drinks, appetizer, and dessert was under $100.00 I think this will be our new anniversary spot.

I'm appalled as to how we were treated at Glidden. We had a group of 18 that were coming from all over the state to celebrate our parents 60th wedding anniversary. When we got there (approx 20 minutes prior to our 5:00 reservation), they showed us where our tables were. One set for 10 on one side of the room, and one set for 8 on the opposite side of the room. I spoke with the hostess and tried to explain that it would be nice if we could have the tables NEXT to each other as we would be giving toasts and wouldn't want to yell over tables. At this time, there weren't many people at the restaurant, but the ones that were seated were in a place that would not accommodate changes. They kept telling me that they couldn't accommodate our request. I am still upset over this days later as we made the reservation months ago and were told that it would be no problem. After much discussion, they actually asked diners if they could move to another table (very embarrassing). We could see the waitresses rolling their eyes at our group before they came to take our order. Luckily the guests of honor didn't see any of this. I will never go there again. Poor planning on their part. This was a no brainer for the restaurant and they totally failed. Considering that we had a larger group when we came on the 50th anniversary, we thought we would be treated the same. Obviously, the staff has no concern over customer loyalty and repeat business. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. Steaks had no flavor. The best thing was the cheese curds. Other than that, nothing to write home about.

Always awesome. We typically stay on the West side of the Door County Peninsula and Donny's is on the East side. However, we always make the drive at least once while we are visiting. The food is always terrific. We were just in DC on our annual winter trip for the "end of season sale" at On Deck and we stopped in at Donny's for dinner. The winter weekday special is a 14 ounce NY strip with potato and vegetable (plus soup and salad) for $14.95...are you kidding me!? Amazing deal. Great atmosphere (Wisconsin Supper Club), great food at reasonable prices and friendly folks. You have got to try this place when you are in Door County...if you visit during high season go early!!
